Salmonella FAQ

Salmonella is a type of food poisoning that can be extremely dangerous to those with weak immune systems. Most common in restaurants and fast food chains, the illness causes diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting and fever. In extreme cases it can cause septicemia (blood poisoning) and death. If you believe you have been exposed to Salmonella, contact your doctor immediately.

If you have contracted Salmonella, even if just a mild case of food poisoning, the restaurant or other party responsible should be held accountable for your suffering. Our salmonella attorneys can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering. If your family member was killed by Salmonella, you may be entitled to damages through a wrongful death lawsuit.

Salmonella is one of the few types of food poisoning that can actually be traced back to a specific party. If you have contracted this illness, contact an attorney immediately to find out your rights for filing a lawsuit.

A salmonella lawsuit is a legal cause of action brought against a party or parties whose negligent actions caused an individual’s illness due to the spreading of Salmonella bacteria. In this type of claim, you will be seeking damages for medical costs associated with your illness, lost income due to missed work, pain and suffering, and other expenses. This is a product liability case, which means that the manufacturer or distributor of the food may be held liable for your injuries.

Salmonella lawyers can help you file a Salmonella claim against the food manufacturer or distributor to pursue your legal rights and responsibilities. Salmonella infections are incredibly detrimental and typically result in extensive medical costs and can cause permanent damage or disability, especially if one does not receive immediate treatment. As such, it is important to seek compensation for your losses, whether it is medical bills, loss of income or pain and suffering.

As of October 22, 2021, 20 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:i:- have been reported from eight states (see map). Illnesses started on dates ranging from September 18, 2021, to October 3, 2021 (see timeline).

Sick people range in age from 2 to 75 years, with a median age of 11. Most of the sick people (80%) are younger than 18, and 65% are female. Of 11 people with information available, 3 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

The true number of sick people in an outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported, and the outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses. This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella. In addition, recent illnesses may not yet be reported as it usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to determine if a sick person is part of an outbreak.
